Checklist For Slecting A Forklift Repair And Servicing Supplier
There are several factors any business owner will need to take into consideration
before they invest in a forklift truck for their business. Along with the price
and what the forklift will be used for a person will also need to factor in
the costs for any forklift repairs that may need to be carried out during its
working life.
Generally you could be looking to pay about $15,000 for a new forklift truck
and electric ones are more expensive than one that has either a petrol or diesel
engine. However over time the cost of actually running an electric forklift
truck will save you money.
When it comes to purchasing a forklift truck especially if a used one then
you need to check the vehicle over thoroughly. Also ask to see all the repair
and maintenance records for the vehicle as well as take it for a test drive.
If the seller can not provide you with any maintenance records then ensure that
a complete mechanical inspection is carried out prior to you making your purchase.
It is therefore important that you bring someone with you who has a fully understanding
of how these vehicles work and allow them to carry out the inspection for you.
Arrange for your mechanic or technician to carry out the following on the vehicle
for you.
- Check that the mast is operating properly both with and without a load.
- Look for any leaks around the transmission, differential, mast as well as
the tilt cylinders, radiator and engine. Only carry out these once the truck
has warmed up.
- Inspect the brakes both with a fully load and when there is no load on it.
- Look over the body of the vehicle thoroughly. You will soon notice those
which have not been well maintained or serviced as there may well be considerable
damage to the body panels.
- The tires will need to be checked over as well. Look to see if they have
been replaced recently or if there is any uneven wear upon them as this will
often be a sign that the axle may well be misaligned.
By carrying out a thorough inspection of the vehicle before you purchase will
ensure that you will not have to meet any hefty costs for forklift repairs in
the future.
