Forklift Tires - What Type Does Your Forklift Need
Today there are many different types of forklifts and all are used for different
purposes. In order for them to work effectively each one should be fitted with
the right kind of forklift tires.
The most commonly used types of tires to be found on many forklifts today are
one of the following:-
- Pneumatic
- Solid
- Polyurethane
Each type of tire has its own particular advantages and disadvantages and will
be used in particular situations that they were specifically designed for.
Normally the tires on a forklift truck will either be press on or standards.
Certainly the press on tire is best suited to an environment where it works
mainly inside whilst the standard tire is more suited to being used outdoors.
The pneumatic tire is very similar to those that you find on many heavy duty
trucks and will be filled with air. These tires are made from strong rubber
and will be thick with a deep tread so that they are resistant to wear and tear.
It is these tires which help to extend the life of a forklift truck by providing
a cushion of air between the vehicle and the terrain on which it is working.
The most common type of forklift truck to use pneumatic tires is the one known
as a rough terrain forklift because of their durability and toughness.
Although the solid rubber tire is a good alternative to pneumatic tires they
are very similar but do not contain any air and are completely made from rubber.
One of the great advantages to having such tires on a forklift truck is they
do not pop or become deflated. However they will not provide the operator with
the same level of pneumatic tires do. Also although these tires can last for
a long time they actually do not help to lengthen the lifespan of the vehicle
on which they are on. These tires are particular good for use both indoors and
outdoors. However they should only be used rarely outside.
Finally we come to the polyurethane tires these are really only ideal for use
in an indoor environment. To fit them they just need to be pressed on to the
wheel of the truck and they are ready to go. These are particularly good for
use indoors as they provide the operator with the right amount of traction and
because they are resistant to low rolling then they last a lot longer. This
particular kind of tire is ideal for use on electric forklift trucks.
As you can see from above forklift tires have been specifically designed for
use in all kinds of situations. So whether you will be using your vehicle either
inside or outdoors on rough ground there is a tire that will be able to work
with your vehicle effectively.
