Telescopic Forklifts - The Cold Hard Facts

Here we'll be taking a closer look at some basic information with regard to the telescopic forklift and why they are essential to any construction or mining business.

There are certain models of these vehicles that are able to lift up to 55 tons and so they have a greater lift capacity than many other types of forklift trucks.

Also these trucks are extremely easy to transport and are able to move loads that can reach a height of 18 feet.

Because they have been specifically designed for use in both the mining and construction businesses they can work on any type of terrain and they are also able to work in any type of weather.

Many of these trucks come with 4 wheel drive so it makes them easy to operate on any kind of terrain and also they have good ground clearance.

All telescopic forklifts look very similar in appearance to other types of forklifts and in fact they function in very much the same way also. The only distinguishing feature on these trucks compared to others is that it has the telescopic boom. This can then extend further forwards and upwards compared to what a more traditional forklift can do. Plus the operator can attach various devices to it ranging from a bucket to pallet forks, a lift table or muck grab so that makes it even more versatile and can be used in many different situations.

Yet the most common attachment you are likely to see on one of these trucks is a set of pallet forks. These machines are extremely useful for those businesses where loads need to be moved which a conventional forklift truck would find difficult to reach.

However when being used the operator must always be aware of what is going on. Unfortunately as the boom raises and extends with a load on it then this can actually cause the telescopic forklift to become unstable even though it has counterweights in the back to ensure that it stays upright. However the further the boom is raised and lengthened then the less weight it is able to take.

Certainly normally when the boom is not extended one of the vehicles should be able to cope with 5,000lb of weight without any problem. However as soon as the arm becomes fully extended you will often find that it can carry no more than 400lb of weight before it would start to become unstable.

All those who operate a telescopic forklift will be provided not just with training but also a chart which shows them actually whether any given task is possible for them to carry out. Also today many operators will have a computer within their vehicle which has sensors that are able to monitor the vehicle closely and will notify the operator and will also cut off their control of the forklift if the limits in relation to it have been exceeded.
